Somato Emotional Therapy

What is Somato Emotional Release Therapy?

The term Somato Emotional release was coined by Dr. John Upledger, D.O., and Founder of CranioSacral Therapy. It denotes the facilitation of a spontaneous release of emotional energy stored in or associated with injuries or dysfunctional bodily systems. Pain or dis- ease often indicates that the body is trying to communicate that something is wrong and out of balance. The concept is that physical injuries or body pain are often associated with emotional trauma, and that complete healing in the body requires the release of the memory stored in the cells of body by the patient.

For example: when the body experiences trauma, pain or injury, these sensations and emotions get locked into the body, sometimes lying dormant for decades. Along with your skilled practitioner this gentle technique will help support your process of release or unwinding towards a deeper healing. The body has a story to tell and when it is listened to and addressed, then many times the pain will significantly subside, if not disappear completely.

Somato Emotional Release is not counseling and often when someone is working with a counselor may find the Somato Emotional Release to be a very powerful tool in facilitating their work with their counselor.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us. - Marianne Williamson
